Abstract

This paper refers to a CAE methodology developed by BrabantAlucast.
The final aim of the performed activity was to define an innovative design approach in order to optimize the magnesium alloy structural components through coupling structural analysis (FEM) and the process simulation.
The benefits of the integrated approach can be summarized in the following items:
optimized material mechanical characteristics, improvement in product performances, component weight reduction and material saving, reduced testing, optimized manufacturing design, optimized casting process, reduced die modification, reduced energy consumption and scraps reduction.
